About us

Founded in 1997 by Norman Nelson, the full size semi-professional orchestra performed its first symphony concert in June 1998. We celebrated our 15th anniversary throughout the 2012-13 season, and now we’re in our 16th year.

With the subsequent introduction of the Sooke Philharmonic Chamber Players and the Philharmonic Chorus, the concert season has expanded considerably. We now offer four programs (8 concerts in Sooke, Metchosin and Victoria), special events such as Tea & Symphony, the Don Chrysler Concerto Competition for Young Musicians, the Sooke Harbour Chamber Workshop, the Sooke’s Secret Garden Tour, and the ever-popular Philharmonic “Fling”, an open air pops concert performed each summer at Ed Macgregor Park in Sooke. In addition, small ensembles perform regularly at community events and fundraisers.
